Taiwan's Wishful Thinking US Will Defend If China Attacks

The South China Morning Post (published in Hong Kong), June 30, 2020 reports:

"Taiwan warned against ‘wishful thinking’ that US will come to rescue if China attacks"

"Su Chi, former secretary general of [Taiwan's] National Security Council, says government should not delude itself over America’s ability or willingness to stop a PLA invasion.

Su says proposed Taiwan Defence Act should not create false hopes because it raises the prospect that the US is no longer able to react effectively."

Hi Pete

China cannot invade Taiwan, because China suffers from various problems such as i) bad diplomatic relations with USA, India, Hongkong, UK, Vietnam, Australia and Japan; ii) international criticism against coronavirus, iii) bad economy and iv) aging problem. If Three Gorges Dam collapses, it becomes fatal blow against China.

As the world’s biggest contract chipmaker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is going to build 5G chip plant in USA. 5G chip is a key technology of next generation information system. Taiwan is more important for USA and Japan than South Korea which is shifting red team.

Relation between China and Russia is a bit unclear. Putin sold S-400 anti-missile system to India.

A matter of concern is Xi Jinping is losing control of PLA. Recent clash between Chinese and Indian troops in Himalayan border area might suggest arbitrary behavior of PLA.
