Pete's OLO Trump Insurrection Post: 252 Comments so far

I'm also active as "plantagenet" on Australia's On Line Opinion (OLO).

On January 7 (as plantagenet) I started the thread "Trump Caused Riot: Capitol Building" which has attracted 252 comments - so far.

My simple post was:

"Since the Election Trump has claimed the Election was "Stolen".

A few hours ago:

"Protesters overpowered Capitol Police and stormed the building. "The president invited us here and we're not leaving,” another protester shouted."

See http://news.yahoo.com/trump-supporters-storm-congress-halting-electoral-vote-certification-debate-200312508.html

Does anyone support Trump now?"

Trump's agitation has spoiled his contribution to anti-China diplomacy and domestic Industrial revitalization.

Hi Anonymous (on Trump)

Yes indeed "Trump's agitation has spoiled his contribution to anti-China diplomacy and domestic Industrial revitalization."

Trump has also:

- failed in many additional alliance-diplomatic matters

- sacked countless able advisors, security, defense and intelligence officials

- failed in his responsibility for a smooth intelligence handover to the incoming Biden Administration

- damaged US economic growth through Trump's poor coordinational response to Covid

AND

- failed to use "Emergency Powers" to gear up US industry quickly enough to supply anti-Covid PPE equipment.

Biden will have grave problems fixing the failed legacy Trump has wrought.

Hi Pete

I was impressed by Congresswoman Nancy Mace’s speech [1].

“Mace condemns 'rushed' impeachment exercises, includes Trump in blame for Capitol violence”

House Congresswoman Mace, in her first speech, brings out the countervailing difficulties that the House and Senate face.

If Senate activity is dominated by the Trump impeachment immediately after Biden's inauguration this may be at the expense of neglecting much of the social-anti Covid legislation Biden wants very quickly passed.

Also the tempers of Trump supporters may need cooling down rather than being boosted by Senate-stage impeachment running into Biden's first 100 days.

Did Trump caused the riot? Is there any evidence? In this modern age, very often opinions are considered facts. The narrative currently is created by the Democrats for obvious political reasons with the help of the MSM. Countervailing arguments are shut down or their voices de-platformed. This is not healthy in a democratic open society because when dissenting voices are not allowed it will invariably lead to bigger problems due to the absence of de-pressurising mechanism.

What is happening today is the full hyprocrisy on display between the left and the right where there are two prevailing standards. The principle of equal justice under law no longer applies because of two different standards being adopted.

For example, when did the right to protest became insurrection? For example, weeks of riots in Portland and the burning down of Federal building was considered largely peaceful but somehow the recent problem in Washington is insurrection. When did the US legal system adopt two different standards depending on political pursuasion?

Take another example regarding the “stolen” election. First the argument was there was no no evidence of election fraud. When evidence started surfacing the narrative changed to no substantial evidence. When the evidence became too compelling to ignore the narrative again shifted to no substantial evidence of fraud to change the outcome. The problem in all this was the avoidance of launching any bi-partisan investigation. Without any investigation you cannot bring closure of this issue for half of the voting population which predominantly believe that the election was stolen. So what did the Democrats tried to do to shut down the fraud allegation. It censored all discussions through the MSM and de-platformed any discussions in the social media sphere. Where was the evidence regarding the Russian collusion but yet it was fueled by the MSM medium for 4 years including the Mueller special counsel investigation. This is pure hypocrisy.

What we are seeing in the US today as practiced by the big tech and MSM is no different from the CCP apparatus of shutting down alternative political viewpoint. It is dangerous and fool hardy. It will not end well.

The effort to impeach Trump is so that he cannot run for re-election again. The Democrats have openly admitted it. In a democratic society, the people get to decide – not the opposing political party. The Democrats started the second impeachment process when even the most basic investigations have yet been completed. Where is the due process in this in an open law based society? The Democrat’s case and argument in the impeachment are based on attribution and not facts.

Hi Brumby

Maybe, maybe not, or somewhere in between.
