Trump Still Aiding Russia

President Trump’s sackings and forced resignations of US defense and intelligence heads may only benefit Trump's financial creditor, Russia.

Trump's Pentagon purge is reportedly an attempt to get troops out of the Middle East before he leaves office.

A withdrawal of US military and CIA paramilitary personnel from the Middle East could create power vacuums that Russia could fill. Russian policy for a return to influence in Afghanistan and inroads into Syria is already documented.

So.. you are all for staying in Afghanistan ? Everyone knows the Taliban is going to win. Maybe Trump just wants to end a hopeless war. There are no winners in Afghanistan, including the Taliban. Once we leave, the economy collapses, and the Talibs will rule over destitution and hunger.. the people will flee in all directions. Are you sure the Russians want to return ? I don't see it. Trump will be gone soon enough -- let him end a futile war on his way out.

Hi Unknown

It will likely take Biden's return to traditional diplomacy, rather than Trump's self important Tweets, to make progress in Afghanistan.

See:

REUTERS Nov 14, 2020 reports https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-afghanistan-idUSKBN27T1TA

"KABUL (Reuters) - The change in the U.S. administration is expected eventually to bring a steadier troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, officials and analysts said, but the disputed presidential election has heightened uncertainty and could deepen delays in peace talks.

A senior Afghan government official said he was relieved that under U.S. President-elect Joe Biden, the process would likely be clearer and less chaotic.

“A Tweet won’t decide the fate of American troops in Afghanistan,” he said..."

Yes, because "traditional diplomacy" has worked so very well in Afghanistan these last two decades....

Probably a return to letting Pakistan's Army and Pak intelligence handle Afghanistan is best.

If Pakistani leaders/officers are paid off fewer Americans (and allies) will die in Afghanistan.

Also American money can head off/compete with Chinese influence in Pakistan, to an extent.
