Very Creepy
Even with gun trucks, convoys are highly vulnerable. Witness the destruction of GM-100. US planners failed to learn from history. They should have read Bernard Fall's Street without joy. In the end, when napalm did not work, they had to call in nasty Agent Orange, and even that did not change the equation. In the end the US did not have 1000 years to spare, neither did the Chinese.

Yes the Vietnam era gun trucks suffered from the US machine-gunner riders having to keep their heads over the "parapet" against NVA or Vietcong small arms fire.
And 0.50 cal + machineguns and certainly RPG7s, mines and other IEDs could easily penetrate the 90 degree 6-8mm thick unsloped sides of the trucks.
Rollovers of open top trucks being particularly rough for riders.

Meanwhile armoured trucks in Iraq and Afgh would still be vulnerable to heavy MG, RPG7s, mines and other IEDs.

With the end of Trump's (probably always symbolic, temporary) troop withdrawal from Afgh how to armour heavy freight and fuel-tankers will need to be revisited.
The modus operandi of bribing road-block "Taliban" and sundry other de facto bandits, might need to be re-instituted.
