On September 9, 2025, reports are 15 Israeli fighter jets dropped 10 bombs on a residential compound in the Leqtaifiya district of Doha, the capital of Qatar. Israel targetted the senior political leadership of Hamas (including al-Hayya, Mashal, Darwish, Marzouk, and Jabarin.) who were discussing the Gaza hostage deal.
Hamas stated that 6 people were killed, but that its top leadership survived the attack. The fatalities were identified as al-Hayya's son, al-Hayya's office director Jihad Abu Labal, 3 bodyguards, and a Qatari security officer. Many civilians were injured.
The strike may result in the temporary or permanent end of ceasefire negotiations in the Palestine-Israel and Iranian sponsored war. The strike signified Israel has lost interest in negotiating a ceasefire and instead favoured the opportunity to kill Hamas leaders.
The US seems powerless to constrain growing Israeli aggression towards even moderate countries of the Middle East, like Qatar, that are trying to broker peace.
Netanyahu knows Israel's influence in the US is too great for even Trump to oppose.
Israel's nuclear arsenal (built behind US protection in the 1950s and 60s) allows Israel to do anything it likes, in an otherwise non-nuclear Middle East.

OSINT is still limited - the IDFAF could have launched cruise missiles while over Iraq (launching from the Red Sea would mean overflight of Riyadah). As with the decapitating strikes on Tehran, the Israelis are masters of delivering munitions to a person’s bedroom.
The Trump must be furious, his buddy Noni didn’t bother warning him, and so all the messages coming out of the White House are duplicitous “oh you attacked our ally, but they were bad people” you were harbouring.
His Trumpness has been whining for a Nobel Peace Prize, as (in his own mind) he’s stopped multiple wars.
