Live MultiCam GAZA: Invasion, constant firefights heard.

Here and above are Webcam live streamed video and audio of the Gaza-Israel War. Heavy firefights (machineguns and assault rifles) can be heard, day and night (Israeli troops, and maybe Gazan insurgents, have "night vision" goggles and gun scopes.).
---

Less frequently artillery, helicopters, jets, bombs, missiles,  UAVs/"drones" Israeli tanks, armoured personnel carrier (APC) track sounds, diesels and heavy machine guns/cannon can be heard

Most casualties in this war, on both sides, have sadly been civilians.

Some Backgound

On the morning of Oct 27 (before Sunrise) I referred to "More frequent helicopter sounds". It transpired those helicopters were in support of a (Oct 27) Israeli raid on Gaza. Other raids and then withdrawals occurred, but now the Israeli army is permanently in Gaza.

Israel relies heavily on medium altitude reconnaissance UAVs/"drones" for wide angle battlefield observation and narrow angle views of which Hamas insurgents are around the next corner waiting to ambush Israeli units. Such UAVs include Herons, Panthers and higher altitude Eitans.

Israeli and possibly US, Low Earth Orbiting satellites are also used in this war for wide area observation of Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran and elsewhere.

Drones and satellites operate best in clear, cloudless, daylight, although they can also carry infrared and radar sensors for night, through cloud and smoke work.

Benefitting the Israelis on Sunrise in the east, the Sun is in the eyes of the Gazans. The Israeli tanks will likely follow creeping and flank protection barrages (using artillerydrones and rockets)Drone noises and eventually creeping barrages, will hide the sound of approaching tanks.

Meanwhile turn down the volume if the constant buzzing sound of an Israeli IAI Harop or Harpy loitering munition irritates you. Their buzz, in this case, is designed to keep Gazans awake and "mask" the sound of tanks, APC and helicopter movements. They also put Gazans in fear that as these loiterers "buzz", changes in sound may signify they are dropping on Gazans like Buzz Bombs on London used to.

Sun rise (as at October 30) is at 5.56am Gaza/Israeli time. That is 4.56am London, 2.56pm Sydney and 11.56pm New York time.

Saturdays are the Jewish Sabbath "Shabbat" which might ordinarily make ground ops unlikely. However the IDF is operating under exceptional religious circumstance "When a human life is in danger, all Shabbat restrictions are suspended until the emergency is stabilized." which permits operations in Gaza until the war ends.

  1. Hi Pete. Not sure if you mentioned it before but Naval group presented a new proposal for an evolved Scorpene submarine for Indonesia.
It has Li ion batteries and no AIP and they showed their reasons for this choice. France seems to be focusing on wholly Li ion designs without AIP going forward. This could also have an impact on other Scorpene customers like India. Might show a general trend away from AIP?

  2. Hi Anonymous at 10/21/2023 2:52 PM

    Thanks for pointing to https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2023/10/france-offers-new-scorpene-evolved-li-ion-submarine-to-indonesia/

France's Naval Group (NG), like Russia and India have faced insurmountable techical and financial hurdles to develop efficient 2nd/3rd generation AIP. Part of this is that each of these countries are pouring most of their submarine effort into nuclear submarines.

It appears easier for NG to increase submarine discretion by relying on civil-military economies of scale and lower investment risk in Li-ion battery (LIB) builder Saft. Saft is a very large global company with its HQ in Paris. https://www.saft.com/about-us/who-saft/saft-worldwide and see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saft_(company)

SAFT is/has been developing LIBs for submarines under Saft's "Marine" https://www.saft.com/market-sectors/transportation/marine and "Defense" https://www.saft.com/market-sectors/aerospace-defense/defense product lines.

India would probably do better to drop its very slowly progressing indigenous DRDO AIP dreams and either buy TKMS 214s (that already have mature AIP and can offer LIBs) or buy
    Scorpenes that have LIBs.

Indian agents of Russia should resist Russian gold and avoid passing on Western AIP or LIBs for submarine technology to India's traditional defence equipment ally Russia.

    Cheers Pete

  3. Pete,

I mentioned to you that the Indian AIP system looks almost identical to Naval Group’s F2G:

    India: https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2023/01/indias-drdo-and-naval-group-to-upgrade-submarines-with-aip/

    Naval Group: https://youtu.be/TgIWbOtvr3o?si=AiU_oHnDLDcwQPFl

I suspect that Naval Group sold the plans and IP to India, who will offer the AIP module as an upgrade to all Scorpene users.

Lithium Ion batteries - NG has been developing LIB for a number of years, but has not qualified the battery at sea - MHI and KHI have, with three submarines - JS Oryu, Toryu and Taige.

NG is now offering LIB to India https://idrw.org/naval-group-to-offer-its-lithium-ion-batteries-tech-for-an-additional-3-kalvari-class-sub/

  4. Hi Shawn C

Naval Group's F2G AIP uses a PEM fuel cell(PEMFC) while the DRDO AIP uses Phosphoric acid fuel cells (PAFC). They are different chemistries.

    http://www.antig.com/technology/technology_fuel_cell_types.htm

Also the Naval Group FC2G uses disel oil as a fuel with a reformer to produce hydrogen. Something which I think the DRDO AIP lacks.

    1. To add to the above, DRDO's patent for the AIP is listed here and goes into much more details on its operation.
