An update to something I've talked about before:
ReplyDeleteSri Lanka has reportedly banned Chinese 'research vessels' from docking at their ports for a period of one year in response to security concerns voiced by India.

Hi Gessler at 1/05/2024 2:13 AM
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately for India this is largely a diplomatic level symbolic victory.
China has many alternate electronic interception means against India's mainland and India's ships, eg. Chinese satellites, SSK and SSN receiver masts and ground stations in Pakistan, Tibet, China and possibly Myanmar.
Chinese SSKs and SSNs can also do hydrographic surveys.
Chinese spy ships can also skirt outside India-friendly EEZs and port themselves in Pakistan and possibly Myanmar.

Hi Pete,
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's a symbolic diplomatic victory at best.
Cheers
