Titled: Is China selling stolen weapon designs?
4:40 - from 4:40 it gets most
interesting describing China is reverse engineering, improving
on Russian weapons eg. China's HQ-17 SAM
system based on Russia's Tor
Missile System.
5:05 - China's cheaper labour mass production of "knockoffs" of Russian weapon systems (and in some cases export of knockoffs to third countries) avoids high development costs. In some cases China has sharply reduced unit production costs for the Chinese military while, in turn, reducing Russian export sales for systems Russia developed, but China has copied.
5:27 - for the
F-35 the US has suffered the high development cost per factory unit
production problem. [With I suspect, LockMart and the US State and Defense
Departments have pressured some US allies (eg. Australia, Japan and in Europe) to buy F-35s. This is in order to cut purchase costs for the US military.]
5:32 - Chinese
competition and high Russian aircraft development costs means Russian built
aircraft are becoming more expensive - so Russia can only afford fewer aircraft. Meanwhile Chinese knockoffs become much cheaper the more China sells.
5:44 - US spends
$Billions on weapon system design and development phases. If China can skip
design - development this can save $Billions
5:57 - yet as well as
reverse engineered copies China does do adjustments and
improvements
6:20 - China has
stolen F-35 secrets, [eg. Su Bin "managed to grab volumes
of data relating to the F-22
and F-35"]
[Pete
Comment: advisable US collects J-31 data (eg. in future 3rd
country buying one) as its just the type of 5th
Gen Minus ("5G-") medium size and high power/weight
ratio that USAF
Chief Brown has have been talking about].
6:38 - if/when China
surpasses US and Russian tech China will no longer have as many money
saving design/devel skipping opportunities
6:52 - China's DF-21D anti-ship
[carrier killer] ballistic missile is a case of a unique Chinese development
surpassing the US. Although DF-21D devel has been extremely expensive for China
with 15 years (initial design to first test)
7:20 - China's new "cutting edge" hypersonic missiles (eg. DF-ZF boosted
by DF-17s ) may be more advanced than US developments.
7:28 - the Chinese government often
claims new weapon systems are operational long before they actually are.
7:36 - so copying can
save years and $Billions in development but (Covert Cabal claims) you can never
be No.1 technologically
7:50 - China is getting to the point it can develop its own advanced weaponry - in some cases more advanced
than Russian or US weapons.

Hands down China has had possibly the world's best military-industrial espionage regime since the 1960s (their Su-30 reproductions such as the J-11 and the Su-33 as the J-15 are better than the originals for starters)..
ReplyDeletethe turning point came in the 1990s when China was able to avail the services of hundreds of ex-Soviet scientists who were hit hard financially when the USSR collapsed... that coincided with China's economy really taking as the 'factory of the world' from 1995 onwards...China's security budget is closer to US$ 500 billion and not the official sub-200 billion quoted as they have been pouring funds into making themselves formidable US/non-Sino friend bloc adversaries...
They got even better at it as it is in all likelihood the PLA/MSS/cyberspace bureau combo filched the YF-23 designs from Northrop and you can clearly see the J-20 has taken a number of elements from the Northrop design barring the still continuing Chinese struggle with engine technology and to an extent semiconductor tech...
PS: India's Narasimha Rao regime is alleged to have availed the services of dozens of ex-Soviet bloc scientists...but China's unity of purpose, leadership and economic rise was an exceptional combo...not to mention it does not suffer from the perpetual Indian curse of clumsy federalism that is always 1.5 steps forward and 1 step back at the best of times...
Covert Cabal makes good, realistic videos.
ReplyDeleteRegarding hypersonics though- how necessary are they? Technically, that's mach 5+, but the US already has Mach 3-4 missiles, which is not much slower. eg sm 2 and sm-6 mach 3.5, sm-3 Mach 10 (though that's mostly outer atmosphere).
One thing about China's espionage is that they've stolen a lot of stuff which has been developed in the last 25 years- that's the era of Concurrency. It's possible their hardware will be as inept as the US's currently is, especially with China's famed corruption.

If China Arms Espionage Inc. became a publically listed company we could buy shares.
Yes China's military-industrial espionage regime and further development ability (eg. jetfighters everywhere eg. US YF-23 design) surpasses any Sov/Russian capability.
China's security budget "closer to US$ 500 billion" if that includes MSS arms stealing and also its internal security.
India's Narasimha Rao regime (and to this very day maybe using ex Sov bloc scientists to develop Indian nuke weapons - including bombs and missiles?) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._V._Narasimha_Rao#Father_of_Indian_nuclear_programme
I'm just hoping China's slower eco growth due to Covid, pollution and post 1-child labour shortages, hobble Xi's/China's military-political rise.
Cheers

Hi Andrew [at Mar 23, 2021, 2:13:00 PM]
ReplyDeleteYes. Hypersonic missile have yet to prove higher speed (with increased IR heat signature) is viable.
Also hypers have not established an ORBAT niche between higher superson BrahMos style cruise missiles and ICBM-SLBM (which are already "hypersonic").
I think its incorrect to say US mil-tech is "inept" eg. US Tomahawks, F-22s, B-2s, Stuxnet and SSNs (reactors and all) leading world.

Hypersonic missiles definitely can work. The problem though is hitting a moving target. The high speed will create a corona effect that will tend to blind forward looking sensors at lower altitudes.. Hitting a moving target then becomes dependant on off board sensors such as satellites or slow the missile down in the terminal phase. Satellites suffer from increased latency as the missile gets closer to sea level (the time it takes for the signal to get from the target up & back down to the missile). IMO this is why both China & Russia refer them as carrier killers (its the only thing they have any hope of hitting).
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous [at Mar 24, 2021, 8:23:00 PM]
ReplyDeleteYes hypersonic missiles, against moving targets, suffer due to:
- the corona effect
AND
- also high speed momentum limiting the ability to radicly change course to hit an unpredictably moving target (moving up, down, left and right).
So to lessen those limitations hit a big target (eg. carrier) or have a warhead with such a hight blast yield (usually nuclear) that missing is not such a problem.

So sounds like hypersonic developers have to reinvent the wheel to realise a satellite directed DF-21D (flying mainly in space to less corona obscuring its on board sensors)
with a nuclear warhead (to still cause near miss kills (or destroy a whole carrier group)
is the new/old answer.
