Hi Pete
ReplyDeleteOne of the biggest issues in Russian submarine development is budget shortage, which causes schedule delay and forces Russia to corporate with China.

Hi Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIndeed Russia and China still see a need to build SSKs for their own navies. This activity also nurtures SSKs for export to fund their defence budgets and for eco-politico-strategic power projection.
Russia and China can share development (including pooling intelligence takes) for new SSK technologies (eg. advanced AIP, Lithium-ion Batteries, photonics masts, anechoic tiles, single hulls and non-magnetic hulls).
More SSKs to patrol their first island chain geographic barriers to a degree makes up for their fewer and lower quality SSNs - compared to US, UK and French SSNs.

Pete
